Detailed specification about this vacancy opportunity kindly see the descriptions. The Dialysis Tech Program Chair assumes responsibility for the entire Dialysis Tech program. Duties include overseeing the design, development, and assessment o! f program curricula; scheduling and staffing classes; hiring, training, mentoring, and evaluating program instructors; recommending the purchasing of supplies and equipment; assisting with the coordination of externship sites, including student placement and performance assessment; developing community contacts and chairing advisory board meetings; teaching program courses as needed according to specified learning outcomes; academic advising and career related counseling for students; monitoring student retention and identifying and assist at-risk students; maintaining competency and currency in the field and healthcare research, trends, issues, and practices, including effective teaching strategies and assessment methods; and providing support for program and institutional initiatives.
Teach any assigned courses and act as a substitute instructor as needed
Oversee the design, development, revision, and assessment of curricula, including course objectives,! instructional methods, learning outcomes, projects, and asses! sment measures in conjunction with SBU Academics
Recommend program equipment, supplies, library materials, textbooks, and other items for purchase and use; monitor the safety and quality of instructional materials.
Manage special projects as formally assigned by the Director of Education (including, but not limited to new student orientation programs and open houses, assistance with accreditation preparation, campus events, and supervision of staff)
Actively engage in retention activities including documented communication with both students and administration regarding attendance and progress.
Assist students with course registration and academic advice, and mentor instructors on effective academic counseling techniques.
Assist the Clinical Coordinator with the establishment and coordination of externship sites; monitor student placement and performance at externship sites.
Identify and refer at-risk students to specifi! c academic support services
Ensure course and program learning outcomes are delivered as defined by the syllabus.
Where applicable, ensure safety and sanitation of all labs, equipment and supplies.
Hire, train, mentor, and evaluate instructors; and maintain the continuity and relevance of the program curriculum by meeting regularly with the instructors
Provide annual documentation of continuing professional growth in educational theory or techniques and in field; instruction in educational theory or techniques may include such things as college courses, seminars or in-service on topics such as learning theory, curriculum design, test construction, teaching methodology, or assessment techniques
Chair Advisory Board meetings at least twice a year, and develop community contacts that can assist with job placement, externship site set-up, community involvement, and/or student orientation
Attend regularly scheduled program me! etings, academic in-service workshops, and college-wide meetings.
Adhere to and publicly support academic policies and procedures, including but not limited to the faculty handbook and catalog.
Ensure program faculty remain current in licensure, certification, and professional development
Attend graduation ceremonies each year
Perform (or assist in) the annual evaluation of program faculty
Complete and maintain an Individual Development Plan/Summary
Attend regularly scheduled in-services and discipline specific professional development activities
Complete annual appraisal with Director of Education
Maintain credentials as required by accrediting councils/agencies and regulatory bodies
Required Skills

Proficiency in Word and Outlook
Expertise in interpersonal and oral presentation/written communication skills, as demonstrated by: data sheet, diplomas, degrees, transcripts, certifications, CVs/Resumes, and in p! ersonal interview.
Required Experience
Minimum of a bachelor's degree required and four (4) years of recent dialysis experience, including: Hemodialysis, Peritoneal Dialysis, or any other renal replacement therapy including 2000 hours of clinical work in the last three years
Professional certification in dialysis is required from at least one of the following: NNCC - Nephrology Nursing Certification Commission, CCHT â" Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician, NNCO - National Nephrology Certification Organization, CCNT - Certification in Clinical Nephrology Technology or CBNT, BONENT - Board of Nephrology Examiners Nursing and Technology.
Classroom instruction and/or experienced clinical preceptor is required
Leadership and management of staff is required.
