Air Reserve Technicians (ARTs) are part of ! the regular civil service and enjoy all the benefits granted to Federal employees in the competitive civil service. In addition, ARTs are required to maintain active membership in an Air Force Reserve unit so long as they occupy ART positions. As members of reserve units, ARTs receive on average one weekend of military training per month. In addition, they are eligible for 15 days active duty tour each year for which military leave is granted with full civilian pay. Air Force Reserve units and members are subject to immediate call to active duty in mobilization to meet a national emergency.

The primary purpose of this Air Reserve Technician (ART) Officer position is to serve as a Nurse (Flight Operations), providing standardization/evaluation, administration, guidance, and expert professional advice for in-flight nursing care in an aeromedical evacuation unit. As such, the incumbent will plan, develop and administer training programs for nursing personnel (flight nurses and medical technicians) and serve as Flight Nurse, Instructor, and Examiner to ensure the effectiveness of the unit in meeting mission requirements.

Basic Education Requirement: Completion of a degree program in nursing or equivalent diploma from a professional nursing program. Education must be approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant. Nursing accreditation agencies recognized by the U.S. Department of Education meet the criteria for nationally recognized nursing accrediting agency.

Specialized Experience: You must have one year (52 we! eks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 or next lower qu! alifying pay band in other pay systems in the Federal service performing work which has equipped you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Typically this experience would involve providing care to patients in hospitals, clinics, occupational health units, homes, schools and communities; administering anesthetic agents and supportive treatments to patients undergoing surgery or other medical procedures; teaching, performing research in one or more phases of the field of nursing; or consulting and advising nurses who provide direct care to patients

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Position may or will require incumbent to:
(1)

Fly in military and/or commercial aircraft in the performance of temporary duty (TDY) assignments.

(2) !

The incumbent's regular assignments are primarily ART dutie! s: however, the incumbent may be assigned some non-ART duties, generally not to exceed 30 percent of total responsibilities.

(3)

Position requires a background security investigation to determine suitability for employment and/or a security clearance. Must obtain and retain clearance level designated for this position.

(4)

Work an uncommon tour of duty.

(5)

Meet and maintain Air Force Reserve military requirements.

(6)

Work requires prolonged periods of standing as well as stooping, bending, and occasional lifting of patients and equipment.

(7)

Work exposure to such hazards as infection, contagious disease, emotionally disturbed patients, and the rigors of flying.

(8)

This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic vi! olence may not perform the duties of this position.

(9)

This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use.

If selected for an ART Officer position, you will be required to sign a mobility agreement prior to appointment.

Periodically, as prescribed by regulations, must take and pass standardization/evaluation examinations consisting of both written tests and actual flight performance to demonstrate flight knowledge and ability.
