Knowledge, Education and Skills Required:
- Strong leadership, financial management and strategic planning skills
- Strong written and verbal communication.
- Knowledge of information technology and management of information systems.
- Bachelorâs or Masters Degree in Nursing or other health related field.
- Mini mum of 5 years hospital experience in a director role.
- Ability to oversee activities in a large integrated department.
- Case Management Certification preferred
- Current valid NJ License as a registered Nurse. !
The Director is responsible for! planning, organizing and oversight of the Case Management, Denials/Appeals, Patient Placement and Social Services Departments; all functions and associated activities under the direction of the Managers. Have oversight, accountability and enforcement of hospital and department policy and procedure within the departments. Strategizing with other leaders of the hospital including physicians and senior leadership to improve the efficacy, efficiency and effectiveness of health care delivered to patients at HackensackUMC. Supports the hospital mission and goals. Seeks opportunities to enhance patient quality of care and outcomes. Serves as a teacher and mentor to employees. Is responsible for productivity and appropriate use of hospital resources.
Essential Generic Job Functions (List in order of importance):
- Directs Case Management activities related to patient throughput within and out of the medical center.
- Assesses house wide syste! ms and processes and identifies and offers suggestions in management of reductions in LOS, patient volumes, transition of care in an efficient, timely manner. Able to put programs and processes in place affecting patient throughput.
- Meets with physician leaders in development of processes and protocols to improve service line management of patients.
- Coordinates and directs the development and implementation of annual operating and capital budgets related to areas of responsibility.
- Introduces innovative ideas for case management and gains consensus across the continuum of care with ability to carry out proposed implementation plans.
- Responsible for planning and directing the organizationâs programs and facilities in accordance with federal , state, and local standards, guidelines and regulation.
- Supports the hospital initiatives for improvement in patient satisfaction scores and patient outcomes.
- Develops and directs n! ew programs and services in working closely with all operating function! s of the organization to ensure continuity of programming and services
- In collaboration with other leaders, makes recommendations for educational programs to enhance understanding and cooperation.
- Accountable for department specific performance measures.
- Communicates with the Case Management, Denials/ Appeals, Patient Placement and Social Services Managers on an ongoing basis to ascertain daily workflow completed timely. Strategizes with Managers to assist with meeting patient discharge planning needs, psychosocial needs, insurance review constraints and patient status assignment.
- Provides oversight of daily staffing activities within the department to meet the demands of the hospital.
- Responsible for monthly department meetings and in-services to enhance opportunities for learning.
- Makes recommendations for improvements in system management of information relative to Case Management. Able to interpret and provide meanin! gful data related to Case Management activities.
