The successful candidate will use a student-centered model to encourage professional growth, overall career success, and develop the appropriate measurements for assessing student learning and outcomes.

Characteristics, Duties, and Responsibilities

1. Provides career counseling including values clarification and other strategies which support personal, academic, and vocational development/growth.

2. Disseminates job-related information to current students, alumni, and continuing education grant participants.

3. Provides resume and cover letter preparation and interview coaching.

4. Uses a variety of strategies to improve students and graduates employment job search skills.

5. Conducts job readiness training through individualized sessions and/or in group workshops.

6. Provides motivation, guidance and support for students who are ne! w and returning to the job search process.

7. Organiz! es, maintains, tracks, and evaluates career assistance and placement using grant management database and other software applications.

8. Develops and implements student career-related retention programs, as necessary.

9. Works cooperatively with academic advisors, faculty and staff to reach department goals in serving student populations with career placement.

10. Embraces the ideals of diversity and inclusiveness and supports the equal rights of all people by advancing the understanding and appreciation of differences including age, race, gender, ability, religious convictions, socio-economic status, ethnic heritage, or sexual orientation.

11. Assists with other duties as assigned by the Director of Nursing and Allied Health Programs.

12. Travels to other Union County College campuses and/or Northern New Jersey Health Professions Consortium meetings, as needed.

Education Requirements

Master’s degree in Counse! ling, Education, Human Resources, or closely related field; with three years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Preferred Experience

Experience working with traditional and non-traditional students within higher education.

Competencies and Skills Required

1. Excellent oral and written communication skills.

2. Proficiency in MS Office computer software.

3. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently to accomplish objectives.

4. Knowledge of the nursing and allied healthcare industry and projected career growth.

5. Experience in career advisement, job placement, work-site development and evaluation, and program outreach.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • This position’s duties are normally performed in a typical interior/residence work environment, based on the activity scheduled.
  • Some physical effort required; however, the employee must occasionally! lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
  • Some travel required.

Terms of Employment

Part-time grant position (19.5 hours per week â€" some evening/weekends required). Funded through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Administration of Children and Families and administered by the Northern New Jersey Health Professions Consortium (

NNJHPC

) at Union County College.

Flexible schedule to meet department needs. S! ome evening, weekends, and extended hours will be required. Ability and willingness to travel on short notice to all on and off- campus sites as needed by the college. Employee must establish primary residency in New Jersey within one year of appointment unless an exemption applies.

Grant Positions: Position will be terminated upon expiration of grant funding.
