Respiratory Practitioner is responsible to provide direct resident care including ventilator care, tracheotomy care, and all respiratory modalities to residents on the medical specialty unit. The Respiratory Practitioner collaboratively assists with current plan of care and respiratory management with Nursing, Rehab and Restorative personnel as needed.

Reporting to:

• Directly reporting to the Director of Respiratory of

Respiratory Services or Lead Therapist in the Director’s absence.

Supervising:

• Respiratory therapy students when in clinical

rotations in the facility.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide care to residents in accordance with

Physicians Orders, Policy and Procedures, established facility protocols and standards of practice defined by the AARC (American Association for Respiratory Care) Clinical Practice Guidelines.

• Assess plans and evaluate respiratory care delivered

to residents on Medical Specialty unit.

• Assist nursing staff as needed off unit with

assessments, clinical resource, education and emergent care.

• Document resident care accurately and completely in

medical record.

• Maintain a positive, professional and helpful

attitude towards residents, their family, visitors to the facility and co-workers.

• Follow and complete daily activities as scheduled.
• Make sound respiratory care judgments in compliance

with respiratory protocols, policy and procedures.

• Attend patient transports as needed within the

facility and outside of the facility if necessary.

• Assist in training residents, family members and/or

other caregivers in

• preparation for discharge from facility to home or

other environment.

• Maintain current licensure and knowledge of current

practices through continuing educational opportunities.

Recommended Minimum Position Qualifications:Education:

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of an approved Respiratory Care program.

Professional Experience:

• Minimum of one year of experience.
• Experience with Trach Care and Ventilator Management

in skilled nursing home, LTACH or hospital setting preferred.

Certification/Licensure:

• State RCP license in good standing.
• NBRC registered as a CRTT or RRT.
• Current CPR certification.
