Responsibilities The Clinical Level III Nurse utilizes an interdisciplinary, evidenced-based care approach to patient care service delivery across the continuum of care and exhibits an emerging leadership style by functioning autonomously. This position is able to negotiate the healthcare system to maximize the delivery of quality care and to minimize cost of patient care services. This position directs and oversees the care provided by other caregivers through delegation, validation, evaluation, and coordination. This position effectively coordinates patient care/unit activities among nursing peers, physicians, and support services.  

1. Demonstrates ability to work with others to achieve and support the mission of the medical center including shared governance and the blue print of nursing. 2. Consistently provides comprehensive patient centered care to complex patients; using nursing/problem solving process. 3. Demonstrates advanced assessment skills integrating appropriate data sources. 4. Plans individualized care based on assessment and implements plan to achieve appropriate outcomes in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team. 5. Evaluates and expeditiously alters the plan of care based on patient¿s response to treatment. 6. Accurately documents components of the nursing process per HUMC policy and assistance others in this task. 7. Demonstrates effective communication skills therefore reducing barriers to communication for all staff. 8. Demonstrates ability to identify ethical issues and participates in resolution involving family members when necessary. 9. Demonstrates proficiency utilizing and teaching others to use clinical policy/procedures as well as other practice references on HUMC intranet as resource to deliver proper patient care and achieve desired outcomes. 10. Demonstrates ability to explain evidence based practice and how to apply findings to daily practice. 11. Recognizes and responds to opportunities to promote and market HUMC. 12. Collaborates with nurse manager to develop action plans for patient satisfaction and is active service recovery. 13. Adheres to American Nurses Association Code for Nurses with Interpretive Statements. 14. Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care that is specific to those needs (i.e., age, culture, hearing and/or visually impaired, etc.). This process includes communicating with the patient, parent, and/or primary caregiver(s) at their level (developmental/age, educational, literacy, etc.). 15. Adheres to the standards identified in the Medical Center's Organizational Competencies. 16. Solicits and offers feedback on patient concerns and practice setting issues. 17. Assumes leadership/charge role consistently in the absence of nurse manager. 18. Participates in performance improvement efforts to improve patient outcomes, assure appropriate utilization of resources, and increase patient satisfaction through projects and committee participation. 19. Demonstrates proficient and timely conflict management skills, working proactively to resolve unit concerns. 20. Precepts the newly employed staff and students in compliance with established Preceptor Program standards. 21. Collaborates with clinical educator in assessing the learning needs of all nursing personnel on assigned unit utilizing the PI process. 22. Demonstrates accountability for professional development of self and peers, through formal and informal education and evaluation in collaboration with Clinical Education. 23. Collaborates with nurse manager and interdisciplinary team to evaluate patient outcomes. 24. Collaborates with the nurse manager in evaluating staff performance/compliance to established standards, i.e., policies, procedures, and protocols, and consults with the advanced practice nurses to enhance educational activities for nursing staff on assigned units.

Qualifications Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: 1. Graduate of a NLN/AACN accredited program in nursing. 2. BSN; or minimum of 1 year experience for existing, internal RN candidates only 3. Minimum of 2 years experience in relevant patient care setting, or as regulations dictate. 4. Demonstrates competency as a Clinical Level II Nurse at HUMC for a minimum of 6 months. Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred: Licenses and Certifications Required: 1. NJ State Professional Registered Nurse License. 2. AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification. 3. Professional certification in area of specialty if available.
