Job Summary:
To perform intermittent direct or indirect hands-on patient care to meet the patient’s needs in accordance with the plan of care and assist in maintaining a safe and ! clean environment under the direction and supervision of a Registered Professional Nurse.

Education:
High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience:
One year of current experience in a skilled nursing facility, home health agency, or proven proficiency.

Special Skills:
Completion of the State approved Home Health Aide training course, Home Health Aide competency exam and certification through the New Jersey State Board of Nursing. For HHAs who work as Mother’s Helper, successful completion of the training course is required prior to providing the service. Mother’s Helper: Current Infant and Child CPR Certification. CHHA: Current CPR certification preferred. Ability to work in a changing patient care environment and meet patient’s needs (chronic and/or terminal illness). Ability to work cooperatively within the health-system; with patients and family members; and with multidisciplinary team members (i.e., nurse! s, Rehab staff, etc.). Ability to utilize effective time manag! ement to set priorities, perform job related responsibilities, and respond quickly to emergency situations. Ability to read, write and understand English.

Supervision Exercised:
None

Supervision Received:
Supervision from the Director of Support and Ancillary Services, PCM and functional supervision by the Registered Nurse and/or Therapist.

Working Conditions:
Exposure to normal patient care area hazards, infections, puncture wounds, strains and sprains, blood-born pathogens, HIV related illnesses, and varying noise levels. Requires moderate to heavy physical exertion on a regular and recurring basis to lift, push or pull of up to 50-150 pounds occasionally with frequent lifting and carrying of up to 25 pounds; considerable standing, walking, sitting, reaching, filing, typing, and photocopying. Occasional stooping, kneeling, and crouching required. Constant talking and listening required.
