Responsible for the effective management

of all outpatient infusion services at the Blumenthal Cancer Center including Integrative Healing ! Services, the Boutique and other clinical areas. The manager will demonstrate

REPORTS TO:
Director of Clincial Oncology, Oncology Service

DESCRIPTION OF WORK:
Organization Excellence

:

Participates in applicable strategic planning committee membership based on service line.

Implements programs and services to meet existing and potential customer needs in collaboration with Director and staff.

Provides necessary staff resources for the implementation and promotion of identified services/needs.

Participates in the team charges with the implementation of a business plan for proposed new services.

Clinical/Quality of Care:
Maintains accountability for excellence in clinical practice within the unit for al! l patient care 24/7.

Consistently demonstrates 95% co! mpliance with the “must haves” as part of patient satisfaction initiatives.

Maintains effective communication channels among all caregivers via utilization of S-BAR.

Implements Share Governance unit based committees and mentors staff to achieve successful outcomes.

In conjunction with director, plans specific and measurable unit based goals.

Implements strategies and programs that are consistent with organizational goals and objectives.

Assures unit participation in all committees as assigned.

Maintains an environment of safety by utilizing evidence-based practice guidelines for patients, employees and visitors.

Identifies and addresses unit-based risk management issues.

Implements and evaluates efficacy of best practice guidelines designed for specialty area.

Maintains accountability of human, fiscal and other resources needed to provide and maintain quality care.

Facilitates perf! ormance improvement initiatives. Based upon measurable outcome data, makes appropriate changes, then sustains and/or improves on results.

Assures adequate staffing to provide safe, quality care.

Develops plan to identify department specific staff competencies and ensures facilitation and maintenance of competencies.

Develops, monitors and maintains budget for quality and efficient use of personnel, equipment and supplies.

Regulatory Compliance:
1.

Functions within the parameters and appropriately delegates/oversees patient care consistent with standards of the New Jersey Nursing Practice Act and The New Jersey Board of Nursing guidelines.

2.

Assures compliance to

New Jersey

licensure standards and applicable regulatory standards.

3.

Responsible for implementation of and the employee compliance with hospital policy, procedure and protocols.

4.

Respo! nsible for ensuring compliance with Joint Commission standards.
5.

Oversees and evaluates the delivery of patient care on an assigned unit on a 7 day per week basis.

Maintains up-to-date knowledge of changing medical necessity requirements for drug administration, including Medicare LCDs

Works with physicians to assure that they are aware of changes in coverage and medical necessity guidelines.

Mentoring/Coaching:
1.

Consistently functions as a role model practicing SERVE standards with the patient, family, physician, staff and all other customers.

Works consistently with staff to meet unit and organizational goals.

3.

Effectively demonstrates innovative, goal oriented behavior. Is able to plan, prioritize and problem solve.

Conducts regularly scheduled meetings with staff to discuss unit based issues including:

Maintains current knowledge base regarding unit responsibilities. Con! sistently role models in clinical expertise and behavioral standards.

Coaches staff in Shared Governance Model.

Encourages participation and allows time to attend appropriate committees.

7.

Encourages staff to develop critical thinking skills by potentially developing expertise in an area and educating staff accordingly.

8.

Mentors staff when dealing with difficult patients and families. Encourages honesty and respectful, professional behavior when facing very sensitive situations.

9.

Maintains an active role when troubleshooting staffing issues until staff can function independently.

10.

Ensures appropriate staff/patient assignment.

11.

Role models and coaches daily rounding with staff and patients by following determined guidelines consistently.

12.

Displays expertise in Service Recovery.

Patient Satisfaction/Employee Satisf! action:
Incorporates individualized patient care on the unit level to enhance patient satisfaction consistently.

Ensures staff compliance with SERVE standards and holds staff responsible for adherence to standards.

Consistently monitors Patient Satisfaction results and develop plans to improve scores measuring outcomes.

Communicates outcomes from consistently rounding on unit with employees and patients.

Manages a diverse workforce that fosters staff involvement and satisfaction, growth and achievement of clinical goals.

Encourages participation and fosters creativity among staff members to enhance employee and patient satisfaction.

Ensures participation and coordination of unit based staff on department and organization wide councils and committees.

Develops and implements retention strategies with department and plans for reward and recognition.

Participates in employee matters which include s! taff selection, management and development.

Increases employee! involvement in Shared Governance, peer evaluation & behavioral based interviewing.

Coordinates departmental work responsibilities with others to ensure effective operations.

Functions as an advocate for unit staff and for patient’s needs and concerns.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires sitting and lifting with intermittent standing and walking.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education

-

Registered Nurse.

BSN required. Oncology

Certification preferred but required within 2 years of hire..

Experience

-

Three years demonstrated managerial/supervisory experience required. Experience in the administration of chemotherapy preferred. Outpatient infusion experience required.
